Chandler and mom

Hi, I’ve recently discovered your podcast and I’m loving it! It’s so good to hear that creative moms have a space to chat and share their experiences so if you’d have me I’d love to share mine with you.

I’m Juliana, creator of Juliana Made This Candle Co. I’m 31, I’m from Brazil and have been living in Northern Ireland for 8 years, I’m married to an Irishman, Killlian, and together we just had our baby girl, Pippa, last January. What a wild ride it has been!

I have always been very crafty and was obsessed with scents and smells since I was very young. My favourite magazines were Avon because they had the scratch and sniff circles and I just couldn’t get enough of them. I also did business in university and it was only a matter of time before I set up my own company. So Juliana Made This was born from the desire to create with colours, scents, shapes and sizes combined with my entrepreneurial vein.

The business was flying and I was making hundreds of candles and going to a lot of markets to share my passion for smells with other people. However shortly after we celebrated a year in business the pregnancy I very much desired for years finally happened but it came with a little caveat - hyperemesis.

While I was elated to finally become a mom I was also violently I’ll and had to be hospitalised a few times throughout my pregancy.

Needless to say this had a huge impact on my creactivity, my business and my hability to make what I loved so much - my candles. This was a very difficult period for my mental health beucause for the first time I had idle hands and felt like the business and all the work I put into creating a brand had been in vain.

But I persevered and Pippa was born healthy and happy and she’s now thriving! I’m slowly coming back to making candles, diffusers and melts. I have also came back to offering workshops which are a creative outlet so people can make and pour their own candle.

This is my story and I would love to share it you. It’s a story about how motherhood affects me and my business and how I am are overcoming the challenges of being a new mom.

I hope you find this interesting. I would love to hear back from you so please let me know if you think there’s potential for good content. Thanks!

Warm wishes,
Juliana
